Farrington is a working-class man that, like so many others, has to put up with verbal abuse from his boss. He heads to the bar and spins a tale on his triumph over his boss with his sharp witticism. The story as Farrington relates it though is only half-true and he leaves the self-damaging parts out. Therefore his triumph is a fake one and Farrington knows this. The physical power that Farrington is proud is questioned in the bar. After a night of drinking, an arm-wrestling contest is thought of and Farrington is called to play. Farrington pulled up his sleeve accordingly and showed his biceps muscle to the company (Joyce 95). This is the last thread of power Farrington has and he is quick to use it.
